Jas. D B Fraser Esq., Pictou
Halifax 18 Sept 1846
Dear Brother
Yours of 13 came safe to hand Creighton & Grossier has neither raisins or figs. I can purchase gr boxes very good for 3/3 but I cannot get good figs in first hand but may get some at auction
I purchased at auction 3 ton very good Logwood I think it is Stooming*
at £5 per ton and 15 jars olive oil at 5/3 per jar sent about 7 qts. If you would like either I will send you ---. Redwood sold for £ 11-13 per ton 10 bbl whiting for 8/9 per bbl
Mr. Deblois says the Bk Bcer* cost 15/- per keg they have charged it in my bill with a purchase I made at the sale of the Albion cargo so you can credit me with it. I shipped 15 kegs the other I have drawn off in bottles the tnickman broke the keg and it was not fit to stop.
I have taken a house and will move in about 2 weeks it is a difficult matter getting one to another* I will take the lesson from your remark.
I would like Mrs. F to get a good girl (not too young) as we will not have much to do about the house as we are very early risers seldom in bed after 5 o’clock and Caroline thinks we should do without a girl but if we do the washing that will save us about £6 a year which will be something toward paying her wages and we have the water in the house and I think we should get a girl to do all our housework and washing too at a moderate rate.
We have only to furnish one room and our bedroom and kitchen and we have a good part of the furniture now.
I send you a lot of letters the and* Tom writes me U.T.* writes Elisabeth.
Black bottle* qts sell at 27/0 per –
Do do pts “ “ 25/-
Yours etc
