Jas D B Fraser, Esq, Pictou

Halifax 25 May 1846

Dear Brother Your letter of 24th came safe to hand and I am happy to hear of Fathers recovery and hope he may continue in his usual good health.

Enclosed you have the invoice of corks from H Campbell  Burrows the cork cutter has disappointed me with the corks and I had to purchase from Campbell

The Beam & Stand arrived on Saturday and is a very nice article unlike what is the price of it  I have sold the other to Morton for £ 5-12-6

The jars you speak of were for Daniel Hyde  Salmon River.

Liquorice is scarce* I will send you a few pounds now and a chest when it can be had at a better* rate*

I spoke to Mr. Almon for a bank credit but he says they don't give it no matter* what security they may offer and I think I will not be able to get one

I have paid nearly all the debts the establishment owes except Gillerpus* Moffot --- and I would like to pay them but I am afraid I will not be able to do so by next book*

I intended you should give me credit for the ginger and etc as I will be indebted for the goods you imported but if you are not short of funds you may let me have the amount of the last invoice

Mrs Clarsons son was lost overboard on the outward passage he was keeping a lookout at night on the bow of the vessel and the captain says he must have gone asleep and fell overboard  The vessel was going about five knots under all sail and only one man on deck and before the vessel could be hove too he was gone   The captain spoke to me about his watch and quadrant  The quadrant he purchased from the captain and he owes the captain 25/- on it  if Mrs Clarson will pay that number he can get it   His trunk is at the coach at five as it did not arrive in time before he sailed

Your afft Brother
