My Dear only son it is with the deepest regret that I have to inform you of both your brothers death. Euen was drowned in Firth of Comarty on the 16th day of July and his body was found at Banfor? four weeks after it happened and Donald died suddenly with brain fever at Glasgow on the 21st of August. Euen left a widow and four children and is in a poor condition and I cannot help them. Your sister is quite well. Keat stops with myself I have been quiet poorly this long time so that I am now blind and deaf almost and the use of my left hand so that I can do nothing for myself nor the for the fatherless. But our hopes is in him who always provides poor and needy. Mary your sister and family are all in good health and your Aunt also. Dear John if this will find you will write me as soon as possible and remember me to my brother and family and let one know how they are all and also to my sisters and Angus* and William and the females and Hugh Fraser and family* I mean --- good brother I supose you heard of Alexanders death of --- Angus and Williams brother he died in May last* and left a large family. Duncan their brother* is in good health at present and sister and son C--- McKay kind compliments Lissie Fraser your aunt and her family is quite well. One of her daughters married in March last and another is to be married in a few days. And with this sorrowful letter I conclude by sending my kind compliment to all known and unknown friends, I remain dear son
