Anne MacDougall MacKay was the daughter of Alexander Macdougall and Elizabeth Campbell and sister to Allan, Mary, Jane, Colin, Alexander, Julia, Archibald, John and Margaret.
Alexander Macdougall with his wife and most of their 10 children came to Pictou, NS in 1819. They lived in Pictou for a few years and then moved to Rumore or Big Point, Prince Edward Island around 1823. Alexander Macdougall died August 1, 1843, aged 83. Elizabeth Campbell Macdougall died March 12, 1839, aged 71. They are buried in Belfast Cemetery on Prince Edward Island.
Allan, the oldest child of Alexander and Elizabeth married Harriet Campbell and they had a son Archibald.
Mary married a Tobin in Halifax.
Jane returned to Scotland and married Rev. Mr. Maclaren.
Ann married a MacKay and lived in Pictou County, NS.
Colin married Margaret Davidson and settled in Miramichi, NB.
Alexander married a Miss Moore and moved to Wisconsin, US.
Julia married Rev. John Macrae of East River, Pictou County and was the mother of Rev. Dr. Macrae of Saint John, NB.
Archibald was an ensign in the 30th regiment and died at 26 on the Island packet which sank near St. Peter's Island on 20 October, 1824.
John married a Miss McKenzie and moved to the United States.
Margaret the youngest child of Alexander and Elizabeth, was born at Mingary Castle in 1806. She remained in Scotland to finish her education. She came to Prince Edward Island in 1827 with her brother Allan and Harriet. Margaret married Captain James Moore of Pownal, PEI. Margaret and James had eight children.
