Estate of Roderick McKenzie, late of West River, Farmer, deceased, Testate
Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds
In the name of God, Amen. This second day of December in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and seventy three. I, Roderick McKenzie of West River in the County of Pictou, being of weak body but of perfect mind memory and Judgement thanks be given to God, therefore calling into mind the mortality of my body, Knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, Do make and ordain this my last Will and testament.
First and principally, I give and recommend my Soul into God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the Earth, to be buried with a decent Christian burial, at the discretion of my Executors, nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again, by the Almighty Power of God, and as touching such worldly estate effects and property, wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner.
First. I give and bequeath to Alexander McKenzie son of the late Kenneth McKenzie my brother, all my lands, buildings, tenements, and appurtenances thereto appertaining and belonging (except the lot of land I purchased from Barnabas McDermont, and situated at Mount Thom,) Also all my cattle horses and sheep, with the farming implements and tools, also all my carriages, or waggons together with all my monies in cash, notes of hand or otherwise, I hereby bequeath and ordain to the said Alexander McKenzie subject to the following bequests, namely
I give and bequeath to my sisters Nelly and Nancy McKenzie Twenty Dollars each, one Cow, and three (3) sheep each. The Cow and sheep to be wintered and pastured during summer, also that they shall be maintained and supported with the necessaries of life to make them respectably comfortable as they had been during my lifetime, and in the event of them choosing to live and be maintained and supported separate and apart by themselves that they shall be furnished with the two rooms in the east end of the dwelling house with such furniture as they shall require and with such provision as shall be necessary for their subsistence, namely, Two barrels good flour, Two hundred pounds good oatmeal, one half barrel good herring and fifty pounds of good beef meat, and also with a quantity of firewood as shall be necessary for one fireplace or stove, the same furnished chopped in proper lengths and piled in a convenient place adjoining the house.
The above bequests to the said sisters to be levied of my estate, furnished delivered and paid to them the said Nelly and Nancy McKenzie as above bequeathed, by the said Alexander McKenzie.
I also give and bequeath to the said Alexander McKenzie my gold watch and chain.
And I do hereby nominate and appoint the said Alexander McKenzie and David A. Rofs Esquire executors of this my last Will and Testament.
And I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former wills and testaments and legacies bequests and executors by me in any wise before named willed bequeathed m ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and testament.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of two pages, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of Roderick McKenzie, late of West River in the County of Pictou, Farmer, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.
Given under my hand at Pictou this 29th. day of September A.D. 1883.
