Copy of Will for Registry of Deeds

Middle River 5th December 1883

I Robert Archibald of Middle River in the County of Pictou and Province of Nova Scotia, Farmer, being at present in ill health but of perfect mind and memory, and being desirous that after my decease my worldly affairs may be arranged satisfactorily do make this my last Will and Testament as follows -

First. I will that all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses be paid.

Secondly. to my son Samuel I give, devise and bequeath the following articles viz. --- The twenty acres of land ajoining the property of the late Hugh Douglas- reserved by me at the time I deeded to my said son Samuel the property on which he now resided, also one Cow he to have his Choice, also the old Bureau and all that it contains, also a bed consisting of one feather bed, one chaff bed and one straw bed with six blankets and spread, also three of the best suits of my wearing apparel, also four hundred dollars cash. Also for the purpose of sowing is grain he to have the use of the seeder jointly with my son Albridge.

Thirdly to Christy Ann MacLellan daughter of Hugh MacLellan of East River, Pictou County, and lately my faithful and trusty housekeeper, I give, devise and bequeath the sum of twenty dollars.

Fourthly to my son Albridge, I give, devise and bequeath all my property real and personal not previously disposed of consisting of lands, farm stock, crop, farming implements, houses, and household furniture, and utensils, with all my goods, and chattels of which I may be possessed at the time of my decease which may remain after the payment of any just debts and other expenses chargeable on my estate.

Fifthly with regard to the the barn built on my property near the marsh by Thomas Ross and my son Samuel it is my will and wish that they may be at liberty to use it at all times while needed by them for the purpose of stowing their hay. by paying yearly the sum of two cents each if demanded to the owner of the land whereon it is built.

Lastly I appoint, constitute, make and ordain, as executors of this my last Will and testament, Thomas Ross, blacksmith, of Middle River, and James Falconer, farmer, of Alma, Middle River.

I do certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of one and a half pages, is an exact & literal copy of the last Will and testament of Robert Archibald late of the Middle River in the County of Pictou, Farmer, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed, and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.
